Hyderabad-based AM Green has placed India's largest electrolyzer order with French company John Cockerill Hydrogen for its groundbreaking green ammonia project. The order supports AM Green’s first million-ton green ammonia production facility, set to operate on a 1.3 GW electrolyzer capacity, starting with a 640 MW supply in Phase 1. The facility will utilize renewable energy generated from wind and solar, complemented by pumped hydro storage, to ensure a reliable green hydrogen supply.

In August 2024, AM Green finalized its investment decision for the Kakinada project in Andhra Pradesh. The plant, expected to start in the second half of 2026, marks a key step towards AM Green’s goal of achieving 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030. AM Green's production is equivalent to nearly 1 MTPA of green hydrogen, representing a fifth of India’s green hydrogen production targets.

AM Green and John Cockerill’s Strategic Partnership to Develop India’s Largest Electrolyzer Manufacturing Plant

As part of their agreement, AM Green and John Cockerill are developing India's largest electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Kakinada, with a capacity of 2 GW annually, aligning with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. This manufacturing site will support AM Green’s projects and contribute to India’s ambition to become a global hub for green hydrogen and ammonia.

EU RFNBO Compliance and Offtake Agreements to Support Green Hydrogen Applications

The Kakinada facility, certified by CertifHy, is EU RFNBO-compliant, reinforcing AM Green’s commitment to international standards and green ammonia exports. The project has secured offtake agreements with significant end-users in industries including refining, fertilizers, power, and chemicals.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green, emphasized, “This partnership with John Cockerill marks a significant milestone, helping India become a major export hub for green molecules. We’re not only progressing towards India’s green hydrogen objectives but also supporting global decarbonization.”

Rely, John Cockerill’s joint venture with Technip Energies, will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for the Kakinada facility.
