Amazon, in collaboration with Aer Soléir, has taken a significant step towards advancing renewable energy in Greece by signing power purchase agreements (PPAs) to develop three utility-scale wind farms. This ambitious €496 million project promises environmental, social, and economic benefits, underscoring Amazon’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Transforming Greece’s Energy Landscape
Key Wind Farm Projects
The three wind farms—Vermio North, Vermio South, and the Mesokorfi and Koukouras projects—will be situated in the Peloponnese region. These projects are poised to play a critical role in Greece's clean energy transition, targeting over 80% renewable electricity generation by 2030.
Economic and Community Impact
€1.8 Million for Reforestation: Aiming to restore local biodiversity and combat climate change.
€1 Million for Community Infrastructure: Enhancing local facilities and fostering economic development.
Job Creation: Generating employment opportunities and stimulating the local economy.
Funding and Support
The project is financed through the National Bank of Greece and the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, further solidifying its role in driving sustainable growth in the region.
Amazon’s Broader Renewable Energy Commitments
This initiative aligns with Amazon’s global climate goals and supports its Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Earlier this year, Amazon signed a corporate PPA with Engie for 473 MW from Scotland's Moray West offshore wind farm, which will begin operations in 2024.
By championing renewable energy investments worldwide, Amazon continues to set benchmarks for corporate sustainability and energy innovation.
