Belgium and France have signed an MoU to boost hydrogen collaboration, sharing strategies and hosting joint events to strengthen renewable energy ties.
In a momentous development during the State visit of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium to Paris, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Belgian Hydrogen Council and France Hydrogène. This landmark agreement aims to deepen cooperation between Belgium and France in advancing the hydrogen sector, positioning both nations as leaders in the energy transition across Europe.
Enhancing Hydrogen Collaboration Across the Value Chain
The MoU outlines key areas of collaboration, focusing on:
Value Chain Synergy: The Belgian and French hydrogen councils aim to identify mutual opportunities for cooperation, particularly in trade, infrastructure for transport and storage, and national and European strategies. These efforts will align with evolving regulations, including the EU's Renewable Energy Directive III (REDIII) and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).
Information and Strategy Sharing: Both councils will share crucial information on international trade and infrastructure requirements, facilitating smoother integration and knowledge exchange across borders.
Joint Events and International Participation
As part of the collaboration, Belgium and France will co-organize workshops, webinars, and joint events to discuss both challenges and emerging opportunities within the hydrogen sector. The countries will also jointly represent their progress at major international events, such as the Hydrogen Congress, to showcase their achievements and promote advancements in clean energy technology.
A United Front for a Sustainable Future
This strategic MoU underlines Belgium and France's shared commitment to the energy transition, aiming to foster innovative solutions and accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen. By combining efforts, both countries strengthen their leadership in the renewable energy sector, further contributing to Europe's sustainable development goals.
