Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has launched the 'Delhi Solar Portal', a single-window solution designed to simplify the installation of rooftop solar panels across the city. This initiative supports the ambitious goal of achieving 750 MW rooftop solar power generation, as outlined in the AAP government’s solar policy announced earlier this year.
Simplified Process with Subsidies and Incentives
The portal provides comprehensive information about rooftop solar panel installation, including a solar calculator to estimate potential savings and power generation capacity. Users can also access a vendor directory, compare rates, and apply for net metering and subsidies—all without visiting government offices.
To encourage adoption, Delhi residents consuming over 400 units of electricity per month are eligible for subsidies. Additionally, prosumers—those who generate extra solar power—will receive generation-based incentives:
₹3/unit for plants up to 3 KW
₹2/unit for plants between 3 KW and 10 KW
Incentives for Societies and Businesses
Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) installing rooftop solar panels are also entitled to a ₹2/unit incentive, while commercial and industrial consumers will receive ₹1/unit. A 1-KW plant, generating about 100 units, costs ₹40,000–₹60,000 to install, with national subsidies of ₹78,000 for 3 KW systems and an additional ₹2,000 per KW subsidy from the Delhi government for systems up to 5 KW.
Delhi’s Push for Sustainability
Rooftop solar adoption not only reduces electricity bills but also enables Delhiites to contribute to the city’s clean energy goals. "This is a step towards making Delhi energy-efficient and empowering residents to be active participants in the renewable energy revolution," Chief Minister Atishi said during the portal launch.
