ENGIE North America will supply Meta’s Texas data centers with 260MW of solar energy through the Sypert Branch project, creating economic benefits for local communities and advancing Meta’s renewable energy goals.
In a significant step toward bolstering renewable energy infrastructure, ENGIE North America has partnered with Meta to supply 260MW of solar power from the Sypert Branch solar project. The new environmental attributes purchase agreement (EAPA) between the two companies supports Meta’s data centers near Austin, Texas, and aligns with the tech giant’s net-zero goals.
ENGIE’s Renewable Energy Project Powers Meta’s Net-Zero Goals
The Sypert Branch solar project, located close to Meta’s data center in Temple, Texas, is set to deliver 100% of its output to Meta. This agreement expands Meta’s already impressive renewable energy portfolio, which currently surpasses 12GW. Operations at Sypert Branch are expected to begin in late 2025, marking another milestone for ENGIE, which already manages around 8GW of renewable projects across North America.
“ENGIE’s proven track record in renewable development makes us a trusted partner for organizations committed to the clean energy transition,” said Dave Carroll, ENGIE North America's Senior Vice President and Chief Renewables Officer. “Our collaboration with Meta underscores our commitment to creating a sustainable energy future.”
Meta’s Continued Drive for Sustainability and Community Benefits
Meta has been focused on sustainability, achieving net-zero emissions across its global operations since 2020. The partnership with ENGIE reinforces Meta’s dedication to this cause. “Collaborations with partners like ENGIE enable us to continue meeting our clean energy goals and operational energy needs,” stated Urvi Parekh, Head of Clean Energy at Meta.
Beyond its renewable energy contribution, the Sypert Branch project is anticipated to generate over $69 million in local tax revenue, with approximately $45 million allocated to nearby school districts. Additionally, it is projected to create over 300 construction jobs, boosting local economic development.
ENGIE’s Growing Portfolio and Commitment to Corporate Clean Energy
This agreement with Meta is the latest in ENGIE’s series of corporate partnerships designed to advance renewable energy. Notably, in a separate agreement, ENGIE North America also committed to providing renewable energy from its Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas, to Google. With close to 1GW of power purchase agreements (PPAs) signed this year, ENGIE remains a leader in delivering clean energy solutions that cater to major corporations’ expanding environmental commitments.
Looking Ahead: A Sustainable Future for Texas and Beyond
The Sypert Branch solar project exemplifies how collaborations can drive impactful energy solutions, benefiting both the environment and local communities. With this partnership, Meta takes another stride toward its sustainability objectives, while ENGIE strengthens its role as a crucial player in North America’s energy transition.
