Google partners with Adani Group to power its cloud services in India using clean energy. Learn about the 61.4 MW solar-wind hybrid plant and Google’s green energy initiatives.
In a significant step towards decarbonizing its operations, Google has announced a partnership with the Adani Group to procure bundled energy solutions aimed at powering its cloud services in India. The collaboration includes the development of a 61.4 MW solar-wind hybrid plant in Khavda, Gujarat, which is expected to start commercial operations by 2025.
Advancing Clean Energy in India
The new solar-wind hybrid plant, set to be developed by Adani Group, will supply clean energy to Google's cloud operations in India. This partnership is part of Google’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, especially as the company aims to address the significant rise in emissions over the last five years, driven by its integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into its products.
In a press release, Google emphasized its commitment to clean energy: “We're partnering with Adani to procure bundled energy solutions and advance the decarbonization of Google’s cloud services in India.”
CleanMax Collaboration: Expanding Green Energy Footprint
Alongside its partnership with Adani, Google is also working with CleanMax, a leading Indian renewable energy company, to support 125 MW of new wind and solar power projects. This collaboration will further help Google meet its energy needs while reducing absolute emissions from its operations.
The partnership with CleanMax is part of Google’s global objective to match its energy consumption with clean energy sources around the clock. The tech giant's 24/7 carbon-free energy goal, which it plans to achieve by 2030, is one of the most ambitious clean energy strategies in the industry.
Google’s Green Vision for 2030
Google has been actively working towards reducing its carbon emissions. With a goal to cut 50% of all combined Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2030, this new partnership with Adani and CleanMax represents a crucial part of its overall strategy.
By supporting new clean energy projects, Google hopes to create a ripple effect of positive change across India’s energy landscape. “We are matching a significant portion of our energy use in India with clean power while supporting new clean energy projects,” a Google spokesperson stated, reaffirming the company’s commitment to sustainability.
