Greenzo Energy secures a green hydrogen project at TANGEDCO's Ennore SEZ plant, marking a key step in India's clean energy drive. Discover how Greenzo’s advanced alkaline electrolysers are set to reduce hydrogen costs and scale green hydrogen production.
In a significant development for India’s green hydrogen ambitions, Greenzo Energy, a leading manufacturer of alkaline electrolysers, has been awarded a project at the 1,320 MW Ennore SEZ supercritical thermal power plant, owned by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO). This marks another milestone in India’s journey towards clean energy.
The project, overseen by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) as the engineering management firm, will see Greenzo Energy establishing a hydrogen generation plant with a capacity of 20 normal cubic meters per hour. This initiative is a key step towards reducing the carbon footprint of energy production in Tamil Nadu, furthering the state’s efforts to adopt renewable technologies.

Greenzo’s Advanced Alkaline Electrolysers
A core element of this project will be Greenzo’s innovative alkaline electrolysers, which will be manufactured at the company’s Sanand facility in Gujarat. These electrolysers have been developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi and boast significant energy efficiency improvements, consuming only 42 kWh of electricity per kg of hydrogen produced, compared to the 50-55 kWh required by conventional systems. This not only reduces energy consumption but also cuts the cost of hydrogen production to approximately ₹270-280 per kg, making green hydrogen more economically viable.
Scaling Up Green Hydrogen Production
Greenzo Energy is also making significant strides in scaling up its hydrogen production capabilities. The company is constructing a 250 MW electrolyser manufacturing plant in Gujarat, slated to be operational by December 2024. This state-of-the-art facility will further solidify Greenzo’s leadership in the green hydrogen sector, supporting India’s push for zero-emissions energy solutions.
