HEXA Renewables Completes World’s Largest Offshore Floating Solar Facility

HEXA Renewables sets a new global benchmark with its 373 MW offshore floating solar power plant in Taiwan, aiding the country's renewable energy targets and CO2 reduction goals.

In a groundbreaking achievement, HEXA Renewables has announced the completion of a 373 MWac (megawatt alternating current) offshore floating solar power plant, spanning 347 hectares across four plots. This marks a significant milestone in offshore solar technology, positioning the installation as the largest of its kind globally.

Phased Development Boosts Solar Capacity

The project began with an initial phase of 181 MWac, spearheaded by Chenya Energy, a former subsidiary of I Squared, and completed in 2020. After Chenya’s divestment, HEXA Renewables took over the second phase, collaborating with the Taiwanese government to develop an additional 192 MWac. The combined efforts of these two phases have culminated in the record-setting 373 MWac installation.

Supporting Taiwan’s Decarbonization Goals

HEXA Renewables' latest project aligns with Taiwan's ambitious decarbonization targets, which aim for 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050. The floating solar plant is expected to make a substantial environmental impact, offsetting 136,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and supplying power to approximately 74,000 Taiwanese households. This development enhances Taiwan's renewable energy infrastructure, bolstering local energy security and contributing to international climate objectives.

Previous Achievements: Near-Shore Solar Success

Earlier in February, HEXA Renewables, in partnership with Ciel & Terre Taiwan, completed one of Taiwan’s largest near-shore floating solar installations at Changbin Industrial Park in Changhua County. This recent accomplishment adds to HEXA’s portfolio of pioneering projects that support the nation’s renewable energy agenda.
