Hydrogen Oman and thyssenkrupp nucera Join Forces to Boost Oman’s Green Hydrogen Vision

In a strategic move to bolster Oman’s green hydrogen ambitions, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) and thyssenkrupp nucera have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership marks a significant step in identifying local opportunities, establishing service hubs for water electrolysers, and exploring Oman’s vast green hydrogen potential.

Hydrom: Pioneering Oman’s Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

As the national orchestrator of Oman’s green hydrogen strategy, Hydrom has allocated over 2,300 square kilometers of land dedicated to large-scale green hydrogen production. By building an integrated ecosystem through strategic collaborations, Hydrom aims to position Oman as a global leader in green hydrogen.

The partnership with thyssenkrupp nucera will focus on localisation opportunities, boosting technological development, and driving regional economic benefits through service hubs that support water electrolyser technology—a critical component in green hydrogen production.

HYPORT Duqm Project: Oman’s Key Green Hydrogen Initiative

The announcement follows Oman’s growing momentum in the renewable energy space. In July 2024, DEME and OQ partnered with bp for the HYPORT Duqm project, a landmark green hydrogen and ammonia initiative. Currently in its design phase, the project is expected to begin commercial operations by 2031. The first phase will leverage Oman’s wind and solar energy to generate 1.3 GW of green hydrogen capacity, further strengthening Oman’s position in the global energy market.

A Strategic Path Towards Oman’s Clean Energy Future

By uniting forces with thyssenkrupp nucera, Hydrom is set to accelerate Oman’s clean energy ambitions, aligned with its Vision 2040 goals. Oman’s strategic location and abundant renewable energy resources make it a prime contender for green hydrogen production and export.

As Oman continues to lay the groundwork for a sustainable energy future, partnerships like this are critical for fostering innovation, localization, and job creation in the emerging green hydrogen sector.
