India and Germany signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to deepen their strategic partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended the signing ceremony in New Delhi, emphasizing cooperation in green hydrogen, technology, and sustainable development. This agreement aims to boost green energy initiatives and advance shared goals in energy security and environmental sustainability.


Commitment to the Indo-German Green Hydrogen Roadmap

One of the most prominent agreements was the Indo-German Green Hydrogen roadmap, which charts a collaborative path toward green hydrogen development. Both nations are focusing on research, development, and scaling up of hydrogen technology to combat climate change, reduce carbon emissions, and foster sustainable energy solutions.


Legal and Information Exchange: Mutual Protection and Assistance Treaty

Furthering Indo-German ties, the countries signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on criminal matters. This treaty represents a significant step in joint efforts to combat crime and support mutual legal obligations. Another notable agreement established a framework for the exchange and protection of classified information, bolstering trust and security in their strategic relations.


Skill Development and Vocational Training to Boost Workforce Competitiveness

India and Germany also signed an MoU on skill development, underscoring a shared commitment to building a skilled workforce in both countries. This cooperation will drive new vocational training programs and boost employment prospects, especially in technology and engineering fields, through knowledge exchange and access to resources.


Advancing Indo-German Collaboration in Employment and Green Mobility

Alongside these MoUs, three joint declarations of intent were signed to promote research in advanced materials, employment and labor, and green urban mobility partnerships. The partnership in green mobility will prioritize the creation of eco-friendly urban transport systems, addressing global environmental challenges through sustainable transportation solutions.


Prime Minister Modi Highlights Commitment to Peace amid Global Conflicts

During the joint press conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s dedication to peaceful resolutions amid current conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. He emphasized, “Problems cannot be solved through war,” reflecting India’s diplomatic stance on global issues.


German Chancellor Scholz Emphasizes Strategic Partnership Growth

Chancellor Olaf Scholz lauded the strengthening Indo-German partnership, noting the progress made in innovation, mobility, and sustainable development. He highlighted the alignment between the two nations on creating an innovation-driven economy and a green future, citing this as a cornerstone of the strategic partnership.


Indo-German Economic Relations: Trade and Investment Milestones

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reported that Indo-German trade reached $33 billion in 2023, with German investments in India amounting to nearly $15 billion. These financial milestones underscore Germany’s commitment to India across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, renewable energy, and skill development.
