India's First Green Hydrogen Refueling Station

Amara Raja Infra has successfully constructed India’s first green hydrogen fueling station in Leh, Ladakh, for NTPC Ltd, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s transition towards green mobility. Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, inaugurated the facility on Saturday.

A Feat in Extreme Conditions

The green hydrogen fueling station, with a production capacity of 80 kg of green hydrogen per day, was completed over two years in Leh’s harsh conditions. Situated at 3,400 meters above sea level, the project faced temperatures ranging from -25°C to 30°C. Despite the challenges, the station was built to foster sustainable, emission-free transportation in the region.

Green Mobility Revolution in Leh

With the station operational, NTPC will introduce five hydrogen fuel cell buses in Leh, positioning India as a global frontrunner in green mobility. The initiative promises emission-free transport for residents and tourists alike, contributing to the region's environmental conservation efforts.

Catalyst for Future Green Hydrogen Projects

"This landmark project reaffirms our EPC expertise and establishes Amara Raja Infra as a pioneer in the green hydrogen infrastructure space," said Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head (Power EPC) at Amara Raja Infra Pvt Ltd.

The Leh project is expected to serve as a precursor to large-scale green hydrogen mobility and storage projects under India’s National Hydrogen Energy Mission. It will also aid in studying and deploying hydrogen fueling stations across the country.

India's Step Towards Sustainability

The completion of this green hydrogen station underscores India’s commitment to clean energy solutions and achieving its National Hydrogen Energy Mission goals. It positions India to scale green hydrogen infrastructure and foster sustainable energy adoption nationwide.
