NTPC Partners with GRIDCO and CRUT to Launch Green Hydrogen Mobility in Bhubaneswar

NTPC’s Green Hydrogen Initiative Gains Momentum

In a groundbreaking move to promote sustainable transportation, NTPC has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GRIDCO, a Government of Odisha undertaking, and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), the state's public transit agency. The collaboration aims to introduce green hydrogen mobility in Bhubaneswar, advancing India's transition to cleaner energy alternatives.

Key Highlights of the MoU Signing Ceremony

The MoU was exchanged at the Lok Sewa Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, with Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra in attendance. Senior officials, including Principal Secretaries V K Dev and Usha Padhee, joined the ceremony alongside representatives from NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT.

Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station and Hydrogen-Powered Buses

As part of the agreement, NTPC will establish a state-of-the-art green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar and deploy hydrogen-powered buses for both short- and long-haul routes. This initiative aims to phase out fossil fuel-powered buses, contributing to decarbonization and bolstering energy security in the state. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has partially funded the project, showcasing its national importance.

NTPC’s Green Hydrogen Leadership

NTPC is no stranger to green hydrogen projects, having successfully operated a hydrogen blending initiative in Surat, Gujarat, for over two years. Similar ventures have been launched in Leh, Greater Noida, and Kandla. The company is also developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, reinforcing its commitment to India’s clean energy transition.

With an ambitious target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, NTPC’s green hydrogen projects play a pivotal role in shaping India’s energy future. This partnership with GRIDCO and CRUT is a significant milestone in realizing the country’s vision of a sustainable and low-carbon economy.
