Oman to Launch Third Round of Green Hydrogen Tenders in Early 2025

Oman is gearing up to solidify its position as a global leader in green hydrogen with the announcement of its third tender round, scheduled for early 2025. The state-owned company, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), unveiled the plan during the GH2 Investor Day, an event that brought together global energy leaders and investors under the patronage of Oman's energy minister, Salim Al Aufi.

Oman’s Vision for Green Hydrogen Leadership

The GH2 Investor Day served as a platform to discuss strategic investment opportunities, focusing on local content enhancement, manufacturing development, and improved bidding processes. Key stakeholders also addressed the importance of bolstering infrastructure to meet Oman’s ambitious green hydrogen production and export goals.

Hydrom’s efforts underscore Oman’s vision to become a key global player in green hydrogen production. The country aims to harness its vast renewable energy potential to support the energy transition and cater to global demand for clean energy solutions.

Significant Milestones in Green Hydrogen Projects

Oman has already awarded eight green hydrogen projects, which are expected to produce approximately 1.38 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030. These projects collectively require an impressive renewable energy capacity of 34.8 GW and represent an estimated investment of USD 49 billion (EUR 46.68 billion).

Project Locations:

  • Five projects are located in Duqm, central Oman, a strategic hub for renewable energy development.

  • The remaining three projects are planned for the Dhofar region in the south, an area rich in renewable energy resources.

These projects reflect Oman's commitment to advancing its green hydrogen infrastructure and ensuring sustainable growth in line with global energy trends.

Driving Investment and Innovation

With the upcoming tender round, Oman aims to attract further investments from global energy players. The country’s strategic focus on fostering local manufacturing industries and streamlining bidding processes will ensure long-term benefits for both investors and local stakeholders.

As the global demand for clean energy continues to rise, Oman’s proactive approach to green hydrogen development positions it as a frontrunner in the global energy transition. The investments in green hydrogen projects will not only boost Oman's renewable energy capacity but also generate economic opportunities and establish the country as a premier green energy exporter.
