Origis Energy has announced a landmark partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to develop the Hope Solar + Storage project in Clay County, Mississippi. The new project will significantly boost the region’s clean energy capacity with a 200-MWAC solar facility paired with 200 MW (800 MWh) of storage. The generated power will be sold to TVA, supporting some of the fastest-growing areas in the U.S. by providing reliable, renewable energy.

Powering Growth with Clean Energy

The Hope Solar + Storage project is expected to become operational by the end of 2028, contingent on environmental and developmental permits. This facility aims to meet the growing energy needs of a rapidly expanding region. TVA reports that the local population is growing three times faster than the national average, with regional GDP growing at a rate of 3% in 2023, compared to the national average of 2.5%.

Jeremy Fisher, senior VP strategy and commercial officer for TVA Commercial Energy Solutions, highlighted TVA’s role as a clean energy leader, saying, “This project is an example of American-led energy innovation that creates avenues of opportunity, providing economic benefits to communities and our customers while enhancing our nation’s energy security.”

Economic and Environmental Impact

In addition to providing sustainable energy, the project is projected to bring significant economic benefits to the region. The Hope Solar + Storage complex is expected to generate $182 million in construction and hiring-related gains, along with another $7.2 million in estimated regional economic benefits throughout its operational life.

Johan Vanhee, chief commercial and procurement officer for Origis Energy, emphasized the multi-faceted benefits of the partnership, saying, “This partnership connects us to those we serve and is good news for multiple stakeholders. Industrial customers benefit by meeting their decarbonization goals, while residential customers enjoy clean energy contributing to reliable, affordable rates.”

Strengthening TVA and Origis’ Clean Energy Portfolio

The Hope project adds to Origis and TVA’s growing portfolio of renewable energy projects in Mississippi. Earlier in 2023, Origis completed the Golden Triangle II project, a 150-MWAC solar facility with 50 MW of battery storage in Lowndes County. Additional projects under construction include Golden Triangle I, expected to deliver 200 MWAC of solar energy with 50 MW of storage by 2025, and Optimist, another 200-MWAC solar and 50 MW storage project in Clay County, set to be operational in early 2026.

All of these projects, including Hope Solar + Storage, are part of TVA’s Green Invest program, which aims to meet industrial customers’ sustainability goals, improve grid reliability, and provide competitive clean energy solutions.
