The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HREDA) is set to revolutionize energy usage in Gurugram by installing rooftop solar power plants on all government buildings under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of promoting clean and affordable energy solutions.
Encouraging Government Participation
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar has urged all departmental officers to register on the PM Surya Ghar portal to facilitate the installation of these energy-efficient solar plants. Highlighting the scheme’s goals, Kumar said, “The PM Surya Ghar Yojana aims to reduce dependency on traditional electricity sources by harnessing solar energy. This initiative will provide affordable electricity to households while offering subsidies and 300 units of free electricity per month to citizens.”
Nationwide Ambitions
With a nationwide target of installing solar power plants in one crore houses this year, the government has allocated a budget of ₹75,000 crore to ensure widespread adoption of solar energy.
In Haryana, a comprehensive survey has identified 1,070 government buildings suitable for rooftop solar installations. These installations are expected to generate approximately 50 MW of solar power, significantly reducing electricity costs and contributing to energy independence.
Transforming Villages into Solar Hubs
The initiative also includes transforming one village in every district into a "solar village." This effort underscores the government’s commitment to rural energy development and sustainability.
Incentives for Citizens
Under the scheme, individuals can receive substantial financial support for adopting solar energy. A ₹30,000 grant is available for installing a 2-kilowatt solar plant, while installations of 3 kilowatts or more qualify for a ₹78,000 grant. Families under the Antyodaya scheme will benefit from an additional ₹50,000 subsidy.
A Call to Action
During a recent meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Hitesh Kumar emphasized the importance of timely action. He instructed all departmental officers to complete the registration of their office buildings on the PM Surya Ghar portal by the coming week to expedite the process.
This initiative not only highlights Gurugram’s commitment to renewable energy but also serves as a model for other regions in India to adopt sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.
