RWE advances solar energy in Poland with the Borek project, bringing 24 MWac of green electricity to 10,500 homes annually.
RWE, a major European renewable energy company, continues to expand its solar footprint in Poland. After commissioning its first solar farm from a pipeline exceeding 100 MWac in June, the company has launched construction on another large-scale utility solar project. The Borek solar project, situated in Deszczno in Poland's Lubuskie voivodeship, is set to play a significant role in Poland’s renewable energy landscape.
Borek Solar Project Overview
The Borek solar project, designed to include approximately 40,000 ground-mounted photovoltaic panels, comprises three interconnected solar farms with capacities of 10 MWac, 10 MWac, and 4 MWac—amounting to a total capacity of 24 MWac. Once operational, this solar farm will provide sustainable energy to around 10,500 Polish households annually, significantly supporting the nation’s transition to renewable energy sources.
RWE’s Role in Poland’s Renewable Transition
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, shared insights on the company’s commitment to Poland’s energy transformation: “Solar power plays an increasingly key role in the Polish energy transition. The Borek solar project is the next milestone in our journey to leverage Poland’s sunny conditions for solar energy. As a major player in the Polish renewables market for more than 15 years, RWE is keen to further develop, construct, and operate solar and wind farms in Poland.”
With over 15 years in the Polish renewable energy market, RWE’s Borek project represents a strong addition to its growing portfolio of solar and wind assets in the region.
