Saudi Arabia launches a 4.5 GW renewable energy tender as part of its National Renewable Energy Programme, focusing on solar and wind projects across four provinces to meet its 2030 sustainability goals.
Saudi Arabia continues its ambitious push toward renewable energy, with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) launching a tender for 4.5 GW of new renewable energy projects. This effort, part of the country's National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), includes significant wind and photovoltaic (PV) solar initiatives aimed at diversifying the kingdom’s energy mix and meeting its sustainability goals.
Details of the 4.5 GW Renewable Energy Tender
The tender includes five key projects spread across four provinces in Saudi Arabia:
1,500 MW Dawadmi Wind IPP in Riyadh Province
1,400 MW Najran Solar PV IPP in Najran Province
600 MW Samtah Solar PV IPP in Jizan Province
600 MW Ad Darb Solar PV IPP in Jizan Province
400 MW As Sufun Solar PV IPP in Hail Province
These projects will contribute significantly to the kingdom’s renewable energy goals by harnessing the power of its vast desert landscape. The SPPC, which manages the tendering process and will off-take the energy generated once the projects are operational, issued a request for qualification (RfQ) to developers interested in participating.
Saudi Arabia’s Bold Renewable Energy Ambitions
Under the NREP, Saudi Arabia aims to have renewable energy sources contribute 50% of its total energy generation by 2030. To achieve this, the SPPC has already allocated 19 GW of renewable energy capacity and plans to tender an additional 20 GW. The overall goal is to reach a total renewable energy capacity of 100-130 GW by 2030, establishing the country as a major player in the global clean energy market.
