SEFE, Eletrobras, and EnerTech Join Forces to Supply Germany with Green Hydrogen by 2030

In a landmark collaboration, SEFE Securing Energy for Europe, Eletrobras, and Kuwaiti firm EnerTech have signed a Joint Study Agreement (JSA) to deliver 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually from Brazil to Germany, starting in 2030. The agreement, finalized in Berlin, reflects a significant step towards global decarbonization and renewable energy leadership.

Green Hydrogen Production Powered by Brazilian Hydropower

The consortium will establish a green hydrogen production facility in Brazil, utilizing electricity derived from hydropower and other renewable sources. The project will connect to Brazil's grid and integrate seamlessly with SEFE’s logistics network. The green hydrogen will be transported as green ammonia to Germany, where it will be converted and distributed through specialized infrastructure to SEFE’s European customers.

Strategic Partnership for Clean Energy Transition

Dr. Egbert Laege, CEO of SEFE, expressed pride in partnering with South America’s renewable energy leader, stating, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to securing Europe’s energy supply while advancing the energy transition.”

Italo Freitas, EVP at Eletrobras, highlighted the company’s strategic goal to become a global leader in energy transition, emphasizing, “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to providing clean energy solutions that help decarbonize global industries.”

Anas Meerza, Chairman of EnerTech, noted that the collaboration represents a critical milestone, pushing forward the global adoption of green hydrogen and contributing to a sustainable energy future.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability

Eletrobras, with 97% of its energy sourced from low-emission hydro, wind, and solar power, aligns with SEFE’s mission of decarbonization and EnerTech’s expertise in green hydrogen and sustainable infrastructure. Together, the three companies aim to own and operate the production assets, creating a long-term collaboration that promotes clean energy across continents.

Investing in a Hydrogen Future

SEFE has a robust portfolio in trading and energy solutions, servicing 50,000 customers across Europe. The company’s focus on hydrogen development positions it as a frontrunner in the energy transition. Similarly, Eletrobras brings its expertise as Brazil’s leading energy provider, with a strategic plan to become Net Zero by 2030.

Global Impacts of the Partnership

This initiative will not only aid Germany in meeting its climate goals but also position Brazil as a global hub for green hydrogen production. The project underscores the critical role of international collaboration in combating climate change and fostering sustainable energy innovation.
