Sembcorp Green Infra, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has been awarded a 150 megawatt (MW) wind-solar hybrid power project by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This project is part of a larger 600 MW bid issued by SECI and aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to enhance its renewable energy capacity.
Long-Term Power Purchase Agreement with SECI
The energy generated by the wind-solar hybrid project will be sold to SECI under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). This agreement will become effective after the project is completed and the PPA is officially signed. Sembcorp expects to bring the project into commercial operation within 24 months of the PPA execution.
To fund the development, Sembcorp will use a combination of internal funds and external debt. Upon completion, the project will be connected to India's interstate transmission system, ensuring efficient distribution of electricity across the country.
Expanding Renewable Energy Portfolio
With this new project, Sembcorp Green Infra's renewable energy portfolio in India reaches a total of 4.9 gigawatts (GW). Globally, the group's gross renewable capacity stands at 14.6 GW, which includes a pending 49 MW acquisition. Earlier in 2024, Sembcorp also secured a 440 MW wind-solar hybrid project from SJVN, another state-owned power producer in India.
Sembcorp noted that this latest project award is part of its regular business activities and is not expected to have a significant impact on the company’s financial performance for the year ending December 31, 2024.
