Sembcorp's Strategic Collaboration for India's Low-Carbon Future

In a landmark move to bolster India's green hydrogen production and industrial development, Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp), through its subsidiaries Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL) and Sembcorp Development Ltd, has signed two significant non-binding Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Government of Odisha.

The signing ceremony took place during the Presidential State Visit of His Excellency Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of Singapore, to India. The MOUs were exchanged in the presence of Singapore's Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, Chee Hong Tat, and Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha, along with other dignitaries.

Green Hydrogen Production: A Step Towards Sustainability

Under the first MOU signed with the Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited, SGHIPL plans to explore the development of a green hydrogen production facility with a capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes annually. This facility is anticipated to generate over 2,000 employment opportunities, contributing significantly to Odisha's economy.

Strategically located in Odisha, the project will tap into the state's abundant renewable energy resources and investor-friendly policies, aligning with India's ambitions to transition to a low-carbon economy.

Industrial Park Development in Odisha

In another MOU, Sembcorp Development Ltd will assess the feasibility of developing an industrial park in Odisha, in collaboration with the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. This industrial park will aim to foster economic growth and create a robust industrial ecosystem in the region.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties Between India and Singapore

These MOUs build upon the framework of collaboration between India and Singapore, focusing on sustainability as a key pillar. Odisha's strategic role in India’s green energy transition is further underscored by these agreements, with Sembcorp reinforcing its commitment to deepening its presence in India.

Enterprise Singapore, a long-time partner of Sembcorp, has been instrumental in facilitating these partnerships, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in achieving sustainability goals.

Economic Impact

While these MOUs are not expected to materially impact Sembcorp's earnings per share or net tangible assets per share for the financial year ending December 31, 2025, the long-term implications for India's green energy landscape and industrial development are substantial.
