TP Solar Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), has announced the commencement of commercial production at its 2GW solar cell manufacturing line at its state-of-the-art facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The 4.3GW capacity plant, the largest single-location solar cell and module production facility in India, marks a significant achievement in India's renewable energy landscape.
Expanding India’s Solar Capacity with Domestic Production
The new solar cell production line, with an initial capacity of 2GW, comes as part of Tata Power’s strategy to enhance domestic solar manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. This move aligns with India’s broader vision of achieving clean energy goals and self-sufficiency in renewable energy production. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Ltd., has been a leading player in this transformation.
With the Tirunelveli facility’s full 4.3GW capacity expected to be operational within the next few months, the remaining 2GW will be added over the next 4-6 weeks. This ramp-up will ensure peak production soon, enabling the plant to meet the growing demand for high-quality, domestically-produced solar components for large-scale projects.
Advanced Solar Technology for Enhanced Efficiency
TPREL’s Tirunelveli facility utilizes advanced TOPCon and Mono Perc technologies, ensuring efficient production of high-quality solar cells and modules. With the module production line already producing 1,250 MW of solar modules since October 2023, the plant is set to play a key role in India's energy transition.
The ₹4,300 crore investment in the facility demonstrates Tata Power’s commitment to innovation and fostering self-reliance in the solar energy sector. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the company aims to provide high-efficiency solar components that meet the needs of both domestic projects and international standards.
