Tata Power signs a ₹1.2 lakh crore MoU with Rajasthan to boost renewable energy, focusing on solar, wind, and EV infrastructure, creating 28,000 jobs and driving India’s clean energy transition.
Tata Power has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan at the Rising Rajasthan Investor Meet in New Delhi. This ₹1.2 lakh crore investment plan aims to make Rajasthan a power-surplus state by focusing on renewable energy projects, transmission, distribution, nuclear power, and EV charging infrastructure over the next decade.
Transforming Rajasthan’s Energy Landscape
The MoU targets the development of 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, including 6,000 MW of solar and 4,000 MW of hybrid projects across Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur. Tata Power plans to invest ₹75,000 crore in renewable energy, while ₹10,000 crore will modernize the transmission systems, and ₹20,000 crore will enhance distribution infrastructure to reduce energy losses and improve grid reliability.
Focus on Solar Manufacturing and EV Infrastructure
As part of the investment, Tata Power will build a 2,000 MW solar module manufacturing plant in Jodhpur, with a ₹2,000 crore investment. Additionally, the company will establish 1 lakh EV charging points across Rajasthan, positioning the state as a key player in India’s e-mobility transition.
Socio-Economic Impact
This partnership will create 28,000 direct jobs in Rajasthan, boosting the local economy and providing round-the-clock affordable and clean energy to households and industries. Tata Power’s CEO, Dr. Praveer Sinha, highlighted the state’s potential, saying the collaboration will help build a low-carbon, energy-efficient future for Rajasthan.
Strengthening Tata Power’s Presence
Tata Power already has a strong presence in Rajasthan, with 1 GW of solar projects and 185 MW of wind projects commissioned. This MoU will further cement the company’s role in advancing India’s clean energy transition, contributing to the nation’s goal of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
