Telangana aims to lead in green energy with plans to establish large-scale solar and green hydrogen plants, partnering with Japan's Yamanashi Hydrogen Company. Discover how these projects will contribute to the state's renewable energy goals.
Telangana's government is taking significant strides toward becoming a leader in green energy, with a focus on solar power and green hydrogen production. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, currently in Japan, revealed the state’s ambitious plans to set up large-scale solar and green hydrogen plants. These initiatives are aimed at transforming Telangana into a hub for sustainable energy solutions.
Partnership with Japan’s Yamanashi Hydrogen Company
During his visit to Japan, Bhatti, along with a team of energy department officials, toured the Yamanashi Hydrogen Company’s research and development center, located 100 km from Tokyo. Yamanashi is renowned for pioneering the use of solar energy in hydrogen production through electrolytic technology. This breakthrough technology harnesses solar power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, a process known as green hydrogen production.
The company has expressed its willingness to assist Telangana in establishing green hydrogen plants and battery energy storage systems. This collaboration marks a crucial step for the state in adopting cutting-edge technologies to enhance its renewable energy capabilities.
Solar-Powered Green Hydrogen Plants for Telangana
One of the key takeaways from the visit was the potential for solar-powered green hydrogen plants in Telangana. With abundant water resources and vast land suitable for solar installations, the state is well-positioned to adopt green hydrogen production on a large scale. Bhatti instructed the delegation to identify optimal locations for setting up these green hydrogen plants, which will be powered by solar energy.
These green hydrogen facilities are expected to provide power to industries such as fertilizer companies and public transport sectors like the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), contributing to a sustainable future for the state.
Official Delegation’s Role in Advancing Green Energy
The Telangana delegation included Finance Special Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Energy Secretary Ronald Ross, and Singareni Collieries CMD N. Balram, all of whom accompanied Bhatti on this crucial mission. The officials were impressed with the regenerative power generation and energy storage systems demonstrated at Yamanashi’s facilities and are now tasked with ensuring these advanced technologies are implemented in Telangana’s green energy projects.
