The UAE strengthens its renewable energy portfolio with $2.16 billion in new projects, expanding solar power capacity and targeting hydrogen leadership by 2031.
The UAE has significantly bolstered its renewable energy ambitions, adding seven new projects worth $2.16 billion over the past year. These projects span a variety of cutting-edge technologies, including energy-from-waste and geothermal power, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
By the end of 2024, the UAE will have 13 operational solar power projects with a total capacity of 10.6 GW. This is part of the country's broader strategy to capitalize on its abundant year-round sunshine, enabling it to meet ambitious clean energy targets.
UAE's Push Towards Hydrogen Leadership
In addition to solar power, the UAE has laid out plans to produce 1.4 million metric tonnes of green and blue hydrogen annually by 2031. This will position the nation as one of the leading producers of hydrogen globally. The development of hydrogen production is a key element of the UAE's Energy Strategy 2050, which focuses on diversifying energy sources and reducing carbon emissions.
A Clear Path to Renewable Energy Leadership
The UAE’s continued investments in renewable energy and hydrogen technologies underline its commitment to transitioning to a low-carbon economy. The Energy Strategy 2050 provides a clear roadmap for increasing the nation's reliance on clean energy, ensuring a sustainable and diversified energy future.
