Uttar Pradesh has approved the development of two large-scale solar parks in Bundelkhand, with a capacity of 450 MW, as part of the state’s broader renewable energy strategy to reach 22,000 MW of solar power by 2026-2027
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the development of two large-scale solar parks in Bundelkhand under the state's new energy policy. These solar projects will cover over 1,500 hectares and play a crucial role in achieving the state's ambitious goal of producing 22,000 MW of solar energy by 2026-2027. This initiative will not only generate clean energy but also drive economic growth in the region, making Uttar Pradesh a key player in India's renewable energy landscape.
Bundelkhand Solar Parks to Drive Renewable Energy Growth
The Bundelkhand region, known for its vast stretches of unused land, has been identified as an ideal location for large-scale solar projects. These newly approved solar parks, with a combined capacity of 450 MW, are set to be among the largest in the country. The state government has designed policies to attract private developers, offering 25-year land leases at a nominal rent, thus encouraging sustainable energy investments in the region.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
The development of solar parks is expected to bring significant economic benefits, including job creation for the local population. By providing renewable energy infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh aims to address energy challenges, reduce its carbon footprint, and contribute to India’s broader clean energy goals.
Manish Agarwal, Vice President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), praised the state's proactive renewable energy policies, stating, "We commend the state’s approach in the renewable energy sector, which positions Uttar Pradesh to make a significant contribution towards achieving our Prime Minister’s vision of transforming India into a renewable energy hub."
Uttar Pradesh’s Solar Energy Progress
As of August 2024, Uttar Pradesh has achieved a total solar PV capacity of 3,280.15 MW. This includes around 2,965.12 MW from utility-scale projects, over 260 MW from solar rooftop installations, and 315 MW from off-grid solar projects, including the KUSUM initiative, according to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
These newly approved Bundelkhand solar parks are a pivotal step towards scaling up the state’s renewable energy capacity, reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s position as a leader in India’s solar energy expansion. By embracing clean energy solutions, the state is not only addressing its energy needs but also aligning with India's national renewable energy targets.
